DJ Maskell is making waves around JMU, Full Story

From his humble beginnings as a Theater Technician at Langley High School in McLean, Virginia to being the top DJ and Promoter in the Region, Mark Maskell has come a long way. Over the course of six years, he went from being just a flyer boy at the club to Owning and Operating his own promotions company, Restless Promotions with twelve weekly events in Harrisonburg and Washington DC. In that time he went from being just an amateur fifty-dollar apartment party DJ to being a Professional Turntablist on WXJM, with bookings at huge music festivals, major nightclubs, weddings, proms, parties, and big events. He has even played an opening set for Paul Oakenfold! (see Shamrockfest 2008) Currently, Mark runs Five weekly events in Harrisonburg, Helps Promote six weekly events in Washington DC, and DJs five or six nights a week, all while finishing up a Degree in Integrated Science and Technology with minors in Physics and Math at James Madison University.

You may have heard him spinning live on WXJM, where he hosts one of the most popular radio shows at the station, spinning House Music all through the night. Around JMU, you may have seen DJ Maskell spinning Hip Hop / Top 40 on the turntables at Mainstreet Bar and Grill or at Rocktown (formerly known as Highlawn). You might’ve also caught him over at Bourbon Street on Main, where he single-handedly started the biggest sensation to hit JMU in 3 years, the “Wednesday Night Dance Party @ Bourbon Street” which has packed the club to fire-code capacity since the night it started. In the Washington DC Area, he has spun Hip Hop, Top 40, and House at MCCXXIII, Home Ultra Bar, Clarendon Ballroom, and Platinum, just to name a few. He has also spun Hip Hop, Top 40, and House for Panorama Productions, the largest promotions group in DC. DJ Maskell has also been advised by some world-class DJs including: Gabriel & Dresden, George Acosta, Armin van Buuren, and by local sensations DJs Pete Moutso, Dan Sampson, Mike Von Salzen, and Chris Styles.

Don’t be fooled by amateurs who think they’re DJs just because they have an iPod and some speakers. DJ Maskell is a Real DJ with Real Turntables and Real Skills. Unlike those other so-called “DJs” that just connect an iPod to some dinky speakers, DJ Maskell has a full size Professional Audio System, Real Turntables, Large Nightclub Experience, an expansive and up-to-date music archive, an Advanced Visualization Lighting System, and years of experience to back it all up.

Mark Maskell is serious about DJing and Promoting, and puts his full time and effort in to every event that he does, and doesn’t stop working until his client is satisfied. As a businessman, his integrity is paramount to him. He prides himself on his professionalism, honesty, and flexibility. Combine those aspects with an outgoing, fun-loving personality, and you’ve got the recipe for DJ Mark Maskell
